Today I'm going to make some contribution to this society. I'm going to spread some awareness towards an upcoming event.
Have you heard of World Vision before?
Last Dec, I went to an exhibition held by them in Miri. It’s the “One Life Revolution”. I happened to be working part time in that shopping mall and I bumped into a friend who is a volunteer at that time.
The exhibition is about spreading awareness towards poverty and AIDS. They divided the exhibition area into different sections and they covered everything up so that you cannot peek into it. You wore a headphone at the entrance and walked into the exhibition hall. Then, you flipped through curtains according to the direction from the headphone.
There are 3 different stories from 3 kids. You listened to the narrator and embark on the journey of their life. Different scenes were divided by curtains and those scenes represented part of the kid life.
You can really see the effort they put into making the exhibition. Those props were so real that they even made the smell of the place. For example, one of the kid mum suffered from AIDS then the kitchen was full of the scent of medicated oil.
It was so interesting that it left me with such lasting impression towards this organization. I went into the exhibition 3 times just to listen to all the 3 different stories, one from Cambodia, one from India and one from Malaysia. It’s about how those kids parents suffered from AIDS and how they affected their own children. They told on how those kids suffered on their own without their parents to make ends meet and support their siblings.
That exhibition makes me realized how lucky we are.
I heard of 30-hour famine since Pri 6 which I happened to know through reading newspaper. But, I never know that it was organized by World Vision until I visited their website here http://worldvision.com.my
This yearly 30-hour famine had just started and the final countdown is going to be held on 22 August 2010 in Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. The theme this year is “Light up their life” focusing on the issue of urban poverty.
I missed the one held in Kuching last year cause I knew about that too late. I really hope that I can join it this year. You can sign up too by first locating the nearest camp to you here.
If you can’t join the 30-hour famine but you would still love to help. You can either make a contributions here or you can start sponsoring a child to help the community here from as low as RM50 per month.
Spread the love now and help make a difference.
